Mount Washington Auto Road – The Road to the Sky

The AutoRoad on Mt. Washington not only displays the natural beauty of the mountains, but also offers drivers the thrill of a lifetime – a one lane, no barrier road on the steep hills of the mountain! If you find yourself in New Hampshire, make sure you don’t miss Mount Washington! The spectacular eight mile drive to the summit of the Northeast’s highest peak will reveal views that have to be seen to be believed—ridgeline after ridgeline, in an ever changing show of light, clouds and colors. You can either drive your own car or take a comfortable, guided tour by train. I recommend going in the summer, especially if you are driving yourself – if you get a rain or snowstorm, the road will be closed. In the summertime, the weather is more predictable and you won’t be too chilly when you get to the summit.
