Algarve
The Algarve (from Arabic: الغرب, trans. Al-Gharb, meaning “The West”) is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. It has an area of 4,997 square kilometres with 451,006 permanent inhabitants. The region has as its administrative centre in the city of Faro.
My Experience:
Liked: Spectacular views, refreshing ocean water, picturesque beaches – and best of all the southern mild temperatures make the Algarve a perfect place to be even in the late fall season when most other European countries have colder weather.
Not so much: Some of the beaches can get rather wavy at times, which is perfect for surfing but not so much for swimming. Do some research on the beaches that you want to visit.
What to do & see:
1. Lagos
2. Praia Dona Ana (beach in Lagos)
3. Praia da Marinha (beach in Carvoeiro)
4. Albufeira
5. Surfing the Algarve waves
